Higher Education Leadership Programme
The UKIERI Higher Education Leadership Programme aims to develop an academic leadership programme that provides core knowledge and skills required to become an effective leader and increase leadership development capacity in Higher Education Institutions in India.
There has been increasing reforms in Indian HE sector and greater autonomy is being given to institutions and new universities which will require a significant shift in university management, process and skill set. The programme will aim to work to develop leadership and management skills of HEIS enabling these institutions to build the systems and processes necessary for their future sustainability.
The overall strategy is to develop an academic higher education leadership and management programme that provides the core knowledge and skills required for College Principals, University Vice-Principals, Deans and Directors to become effective leaders and through them both to support improvements in their universities and colleges and enable the learning from the programmes to be shared with other leaders. This will be made more effective through as much engagement with UGC, Indian Vice-Chancellors and with other UKIERI projects as possible.
The programme would also have an underpinning collaborative project model which will provide opportunities for Centres of Excellence in the UK to build partnerships with top Universities/Colleges in India by sharing best practice on academic leadership and management through ongoing collaboration, joint workshops, seminars and exchanges on leadership and management.
